I just found a song that fits in perfectly with the Frog Perspective! Can’t believe I never even looked at it before. It was right under my nose and I dismissed it. It’s called Murder City by Green Day and the minute I heard the lyrics I thought of the gang. It describes them pretty well. Young teenagers who would be seen as the most unlikely heroes and have grown up in a town that is dangerous yet they gather the bravery to stand up against the threats. They may not be the best heroes around and the Frog brothers may come across as useless but all of them fight anyway.

Here are the lyrics:

Desperate but not hopeless
I feel so useless
In the murder city
Desperate but not helpless
The clock strikes midnight
In the murder city

I’m wide awake after the riot
This demonstration of our anguish
This empty laughter has no reason
Like a bottle of your favorite poison

We are the last call
And we’re so pathetic

Desperate but not hopeless
I feel so useless
In the murder city
Desperate but not helpless
The clock strikes midnight
In the murder city

Christian’s crying in the bathroom
And I just want to bum a cigarette
We’ve come so far,
We’ve been so wasted
It’s written all over our faces

We are the last call
And we’re so pathetic

Desperate but not hopeless
I feel so useless
In the murder city
Desperate but not helpless
The clock strikes midnight
In the murder city
Desperate but not hopeless
I feel so useless
In the murder city
Desperate but not helpless
The clock strikes midnight
In the…

And here’s the song if you’re interested in listening to it…

Green Day – Murder City

I should have turned to Green Day in the first place for songs.

Chapter update…

•November 30, 2009 • 6 Comments

See? Told ya I’d get back onto things. Just one chapter update but still… it’s something. Chapter seven of Starcross’d? so just clicky the link on the story’s blog page and it’ll take you straight to the fanfic on Marked.

So Bonnie is back and yelling at me. She really doesn’t like what’s happening to her. She’s denying it in the story and she’s mentally kicking me in the head. But I thought the issue was necessary for her. I guess Twilight did do something good. It made me see the flaws in the first version of Undead I wrote. How Bonnie and Bridget just gave up their lives like that. Bonnie was hardly frightened and Bridget went from disgusted to ‘I love you!’ in a heartbeat. BLEURGH! Bella-wannabes. I can’t believe I made Bella-wannabes. I feel like I should ban myself from writing another story unless I improve and really look at what I’m writing. I have to avoid that again. *shudders* I wrote a Twilight-esque story. That seriously sickens me. I’m ashamed of myself. You know what’s worse? Alan and Bridget’s first meeting. He fucking threatened her with a knife. And then their in love! I… just… *head desk* so utterly disgusted with myself.

I reread the whole thing and thought: No. Not working! bad! EXTERMINATE NOW!

The stories have to be longer first. That way there can (hopefully, if I’m not turning out to be a poor writer) be some development. The plots have all changed, some storylines or any forshadowing of future storylines comes ealier now. And it really has changed for the better. True, these fanfictions are not and will never be considered great work but at least I’m not going through them and wanting to shoot myself for creating a complete disaster. I don’t feel horribly disatisfied with everything so far though I am worrying Starcross’d is a little boring. But I guess it seems slow paced because of how long I’m taking to update. I’ll leave that worry when it’s finished and then read it all the way through. I can judge better then.

The characters. Charlotte has gone through a huge change. I didn’t like how immediate her interest in Alan was. Why him? Why she was finding things out about him? Was she a creepy stalker? Delete her. Bonnie and Bridget. Just giving in like that? Hell no! That was out of character, especially for Bridget. While she was a little cheat she had some principles. Yet she quickly forgot about him? What the hell was I thinking? Was I taking something?

I had to look back at what I wanted from this series. People snapping. Their darker sides coming out. How do they snap? What would drive them over the edge to become such a monster?

Wow, I’m really being a bitch about myself. Well it serves me right. I shouldn’t write such crap.

Almost there…

I promise. I’ve been working my arse off all week. I’m not as stressed out as I was before. 3/6 assignments are done with just the usual check over, adding footnotes, and editing to do and a third of my fourth assignment is done so far. Then I have two/three more weeks to finish the last two essays before I hand them in. So I’ve got less work to do and started to work on the next chapter for Tainted By Truth. Sorry for boring you with a drawl on university life but I believe in letting people know what’s happening instead of letting them hang on a thread. I know I haven’t updated any story for *calculates* probably more than a month now. Part of me feels bad but I’m more pleased that I’ve actually sat myself down and got on with my assignments rather than leaving it to the last two weeks. It’s a bad habit of mine and I’ve learnt my lesson on that. The stress of doing it at the last minute is so not worth experiencing.

So let’s talk about writing! I’ve added three more story plans to the Frog Perspective. For now there are only three more stories after So Shall It Be. As Laddie grows up he’ll become more of a central character and working alongside his sister. Dunno why but Laddie just started screaming ‘Main character! Now!’ I think I like bringing the characters who didn’t get much attention out into the limelight. And with the humans there are questions. What are their futures going to be like?

What I do need to do is focus on Laddie’s state of mind a little. Call me twisted but I don’t want to see Laddie just suddenly getting over what happened to him. The kid was turned into a vampire. That’s gotta bring out some serious issues. You’ll see him hating vampires a lot. Even more than Edgar and Alan (which seems impossible). Then there’s anger. While Roz is gonna do whatever it takes to defend herself, I can see Laddie really getting wound up. He’ll suffer nightmares. Maybe even get violent towards anyone (human or supernatural) who tries to mess with him.

I’ve got a really bad habit of giving canon characters and OC some serious psychological problems.

Serious case of abandonment…

•November 9, 2009 • 6 Comments

I’ve been neglecting things badly at the mo. Number of things really. Illness that has so kindly stuck with me since August. Assignment Period is a-coming meaning I have some loverly essays to plan and write. If you hear any frustrated screaming that will be me. Thirdly, I’m in newspaper limbo with the student newspaper. Having some major problems with that involving an editor who has pushed me to my limits and disappeared of the face of the earth. So I haven’t been updating the blog nor have I been working on any of the stories, including the Halloween challenge. *head desk* I feel so pressurised at the moment. And if all goes well at Lush recruitment tonight I might even get a job which will really mean total abandonment. I will honestly get round to things. It’s just pure chaos at the moment and in the end I gotta put school and (hopefully – fingers crossed!) the job first before fanfiction. If I want rent and food money and a degree in 2011 they gotta come first. I’ll have more time once deadlines are over and, fortunately, they’re usually in the first two weeks of December. Then I’ll finish stories and organise myself better.

I did make one change during my sick period. Bridget. Got my rubber, erased her and started over again. Well sort of.

Bridget has just had a little bit of a make-over character wise. I managed to get her into the original version of Undead without seeming like the same character but obviously I couldn’t keep the same name and background. So she’s changed a lot for the fanfic.

I changed her name, now calling her Roisin. I’m sticking with Quinn. She still has her older sister, Sinead (another name change), and not a runaway. She is however the disappointment in the family and had a bit of a bad reputation back in High School that she is really embarrassed by now.

At least I got something done.

Fright Fest Challenge

•October 12, 2009 • 7 Comments

If you go over to Marked by the Boys Fanfic archive and look under challenges, I’ve put up a challenge set especially for Halloween! If you’re a fanfic writer for The Lost Boys and want to celebrate this spooky day then this may be for you!

So as I already said I’m working on a Halloween-themed fic for The Lost Boys, I wanted to see what other people could do. I want someone to scare the crap out of me, show a darker world in Santa Carla… if it could go any darker. Seriously, Santa Carla was like the 80s Sunnydale with the amount of deaths and mysterious disappearances occurring there. Oops, I’m digressing…

So… the challenge?

Produce a horror fic in The Lost Boys world. Pick any canon character/s and set up a horror fanfiction they are involved in. Say if you choose the vampires… you may want to write about them creating the horror, killing innocent people and showing them for what they truly are: monsters. They’re vampires, they’re not romantic figures. These boys are pure bred evil. Just re-watch the bonfire scene where they kill the remaining surf nazis. You would have thought Christmas and their birthdays had merged into one day judging by the happy little smirks they were flashing.

Or maybe you want to choose the Frog brothers? Then you could write about one of their hunts that is more full of disturbing horror rather than a complete laugh.

Maybe touch on Grandpa’s history. How does he know about vampires? Did something happen?

Maybe Sam, Lucy, and Michael are being haunted by their memories of the vampires.

The possibilities are endless. This is your chance to be creative and scare people shitless. No romance, no slapstick comedy, no action adventure… horror. Give me horror. The kind of horror you want to do is up to you. If you want to try out something more psychological and disturbing, give it a go. Want to write loads of gore? Feel free!

There are no limits. You can write a full-length story, short fic, a one-shot – anything you fancy. You can bring in OCs as long as they’re more like minor characters. Let the canons be in the limelight for this.

Can’t wait to see what people come up with!

Being Festive…

Still writing Starcross’d and Tainted by Truth. But I’ve also been working on a little Halloween fic to celebrate the day in The Lost Boys world so look out for a Halloween fic appearing around the time. See, Halloween is a time where the ghosts and goblins venture out. Vampires too. I want to try my hand at some creepy horror that make you look at the boys and say ‘you digusting monster!’. Show the boys doing what they do best… murder. Also gives me a chance to revert back to the creepy, evil vampires who you wanted to beat with a stick rather than the romanticised ones people want to fuck like crazy.

You all remember the feeding fiesta scene in the film? Surf Nazi massacre. Necks snapped, flesh being ripped off heads, fangs sinking into heads…? Remember that delightful scene? *Evil smirk* Call me twisted but I want to see more of that side from the boys. Now that Halloween is near it’s the perfect time to delve into the darker side of the boys. Not their wicked cheekiness and messing around with halfies like we’ve seen. I’m on about that side that just wants to rip necks apart without caring who their victim is.

Something Wicked This Way Comes…

•September 16, 2009 • 10 Comments

I’m gonna have this little baby in my hands next week, thanks to my fellow Lost Boys Fanatic and super-awesome Lizzie. Can you guess what it is? It’s small, inky, full of paper…

Guessed it? That’s right, next week The Lost Boys book will be in my hands – or rather in my arms since I’ll just end up hugging it 24/7 – and I’m gonna post it up on it’s own page. It won’t be anything unique, just a summar of it, maybe a review comparing it with the film, and I’ll take pictures of it (front, back, spine) to show as well. The book is up on other Lost Boys fansites but still… fans like to see it anywhere and read about it on different sites, right? I do that. :D Yes, I’m a LB Crazy that way… but I enjoy it. Hehe!

Anyhoo, I wanna write more for The Lost Boys section, not just writing about the film but adding more pages about it to show people just how big this film really is. I’m not intending to make this a fansite, just thought it would be more interesting to show the main things that come with the film (soundtrack and book) and maybe also the dreaded Reign of Frogs comic, another review for them as well. Yes, I get that they were an insult – you should have seen me hissing and spitting when I read the second and last one – but I’m kinda going the whole comic theme here in honour of the most amazing comic fans in the world (Edgar, Alan, and Sam) so it’s fitting. I really don’t wanna put something up about The Tripe. That has no right to even be associated with TLB.

And just a quick note before I skip away… chapter 5 of Starcross’d is now up and chapter 14 of Tainted by Truth. I’m also gonna start work on the page for the third Frog Perspective to get things rolling. Phoebe, Edgar, Alan, and Sam know about the vampires now so they should be getting ready to hunt them down now.

Challenge up…

•September 2, 2009 • 5 Comments

I’ve posted my fic response up to Python’s ‘Kill Twilight’ challenge. So anyone who fancies seeing Edward Cullen die please clicky the link for Challenge: Bye-Bye Edward and enjoy Marko venting out his anger on Sparkle Dick. Ahh, I feel much better for that. I was seriously pissed off with Meyer’s little comment about The Lost Boys. She hasn’t even seen the whole film and she brands the whole thing as ‘yucky’? Wow. Way to make me feel sick and disgusted at you, Meyer. Anyhoo, Edward Cullen needed to die in order for me to vent out my anger on her childish, unfair remark on The Lost Boys. See, it’s not just Twilight who come with a dedicated fanbase. Most of The Lost Boys fans I know could seriously do some damage.

I’m telling y’all. You know us Lost Boys/Real Vampire Fans…

Well, we bite. We torture. We run with the real fucking vampires. The ones who are really dangerous.

Anyhoo, let’s move on. I’m in serious trouble. I’ve been ill (chest infection) so I haven’t really been up to writing or doing anything. Just sleeping and getting well. So, as a result, every OC has ganged up together and yelled at me. Roz the most. That’s a little bit surprising. She’ll speak up if she’s pissed off at something but she would not rant on the way she’s been doing. I’m thinking Bonnie has been talking to her. But I can understand why Roz will be pissed. I’m taking forever to finish Tainted by Truth and she really wants to start being one of the main characters and help kill vampires. She’ll appear in a later chapter on the current FP story but that’s only for one chapter just like she had in Turning Point. For now, while she impatiently waits to become a MC, I’ve put up her bio on the ‘characters’ page on The Frog Perspective. So far it’s just about her interests and personality and not a summary of her character in the story. Trying to avoid giving any spoilers. :D

As for Bonnie I have an idea to explore in All For Marko. Something that may give her a better reason to snap and become a vampire. She’s not too sure about it. I don’t think she likes the fact that it’ll make her emotional and temporarily vulnerable. She’s not the type to be afraid of emotions. If she’s upset, pissed, frightened etc she’ll show it and get over it. But I think this particular storyline hits something that’s a huge part of her. It’s something she’s never really had to face so I don’t think she likes the shock of it and how it will drastically change her life. Still, she’s gonna face it. She’s determined to.

The Astoria Theatre in the flesh…

•August 18, 2009 • 13 Comments

In the last Undead story the vampires had ditched caves for a run down theatre in Avalon. The Astoria Theatre finally has a picture to go with it. The first time I saw this building in Headingley my eyes lit up. It reminded me so much of the theatre Bonnie, Marko, and Alan shelter in. Back when I first saw it the place was still up and running but then it closed down and got boarded up. That’s when it reached perfection!

Lookie here:

MOV017_0001

MOV017_0002

MOV017_0003

MOV018_0001

There’s the Astoria! The building isn’t really called that. And I don’t think it used to be a theatre. I think it was a school or something. I’m not really sure.

The concept of the Astoria is kind of a homage to the London Astoria, a building that was first used as a cinema from 1926 to 1976 and then became one of the most famous music venues in London. Of course like any well-loved building in England it ended up closing and is now going to be demolished in order to build a cross rail. See, that’s the great about England… favourite buildings don’t last long(!). There’s always some idiot who thinks it’d be better being changed into something else that is less appealing and unnecessary. Seriously, just read up on the Corn Exchange in Leeds and you’ll have a good idea of what this country can be like sometimes.

So that closure is how the idea for Avalon’s Astoria Theatre came about. Tis my homage to the great London Astoria.

R.I.P Astoria.

I think there is a way around this…

Chikaki gave me good advice. What do I really want to see? So I’ve gone and thought about it. Also, Depeche Mode’s Damaged People really helped me to decide. It’s the perfect song for Undead.

Well, I really want Bridget to stay. I just want to get these re-edits done and dusted. I don’t want to start from scratch again. That will mean I’m obsessing about fanfiction and that’s not a great road to get into. It doesn’t have to be perfect, it just has to be semi-decent and finished so I can concentrate on more important WIPs. So I’ll change the plot a little, maybe altering a bit of Bridget’s character and background. It doesn’t matter about the original vampire series because I can do something different for that and change Bridget’s name and character for that as well. I’ve got an idea on what could happen so I’ll work on planning both stories. So it’s still all change but not totally brand new. Does that make sense?

Thanks, Chikaki, for your help on this! :D
